SK South library receives RM20,000 upgrade

MIRI: OCBC Bank (Malaysia) Berhad and the Lions Club of Batu Niah have come together to give the SK South library an RM20,000 upgrade.

The upgrade covers five book racks, two computers, and four new air conditione­rs.

The school also received soap, antibacter­ial wipes, and children’s face masks.

Lions Club of Batu Niah president Alice Yong said the collaborat­ion with OCBC has been going on for several years to reach out to the local community.

“We are grateful to OCBC Bank through its Miri branch for their relentless support and commitment to assist the community.

“This year we wanted to promote the reading habit among students and needed support to upgrade the school library and provide educationa­l aid to SK South, which the programme goes with the theme, ‘Today a Reader, Tomorrow a Leader’.

We hope this will ignite the students’ spirits and further steer their yearning for reading so they ultimately become even more knowledgea­ble,” she said.

OCBC Bank Miri senior manager Benedict Ku said the bank continues to strive to be more involved in the areas where it operates and more engaged in the community.

“OCBC Bank has always strived to assist communitie­s and we have been deeply involved in promoting education for children.

“We are pleased to have embarked on this special journey to nurture the reading habit among the students of SK South and we trust that they will be benefit from it for many years to come,” he said.
