SWP makes foray into Tamin, raising political temperature in the constituency

-

SIBU: The political temperature in Tamin state constituency has risen after Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) became the latest party to make its foray into this rural constituency.

SWP acting president Captain (R) Engga Unchat has announced that he will contest in Tamin alongside other party candidates in six other constituencies where the party will contest.

Tamin assemblyman Christopher Gira, however, appeared unfazed by the latest development in his constituency.

“In a democratic country, anyone can stand (in seats) where they want. I take my work to serve the people seriously, just like I take every task (as) important.

“So, whether it’s a tough fight, I expect many want to try their luck and with their own personal agenda,” he said yesterday when asked on SWP fielding Engga in Tamin and whether he would expect a tough multi-cornered fight this time around.

Tamin and Kakus state constituencies make up Selangau parliamentary constituency.

Commenting further, Gira said that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has been tested and proven able to bring development to people especially in rural areas, adding that GPS is a government for all Sarawakians.

On the contrary, he said Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and Democratic Action Party (DAP) under Pakatan Harapan (PH) had failed the test as the government when PH was in power for 22 months.

“Now newcomers such as Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB), Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) and many more, these parties have never been tested but have a wish to try their luck by giving many goodies, not development.

“People must decide what they want by choosing who is right with good track record and that is none other than GPS.

“So, let the people decide on the best guardian for the future. Sarawak First,” he said.

In the last state election, PRS fielded Gira in Tamin, who garnered 6,230 votes to defeat Dr Ali Puji, who stood on the Independent ticket with 4,145 votes, while Simon Joseph of PKR polled 954 votes.
