Two gang robbery suspects nabbed by police
MIRI: Police have arrested two suspects of a gang robbery that struck Batu Niah town near here on Thursday.
Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah, who confirmed the arrest, said the suspects were apprehended at around 8pm on the same day.
He said in the late afternnon robbery, a 24-year- old unemployed man from Batu Niah was approached by three men, including an Indonesian who later punched him, inside a grocery store in Batu Niah.
“The suspects also took away RM480 from the victim.
“The victim was punched on the right side of his face and the back of his head.
“The suspects then fled the scene on two motorcycles,” said Lim, adding that the victim lodged a police report at a police station immediately after the attack.
“Police later arrested two of the three suspects, aged 29 and 32, and seized their motorcycles.
“Also seized was a pocket bag containing RM270,” said Lim.
Both suspects were later brought to the central police station here.
Based on initial investigation, both of them had past criminal records for various offences.
Also based on initial investigation, it was known that the victim was sitting and having drinks with his friend behind the grocery store just moments before the attack. The victim did not suffer any serious injury.
The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery.
It is understood that the third suspect is still at large.
