Poll: Majority of Sibu folk fine with RMCO extension if situation warrants it

-

SIBU: Many of the folk here have no objection against possible extension of the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO) to prevent further spread of Covid-19.

Zaidil Arip, the chairman of village development and security committee ( JKKK) of Phase I Kampung Bahagia Jaya-Teku, said such plan must take public safety into account.

“Of course, if things get better, there’s no need to extend the RMCO.

“What’s important is that every member of society must adhere strictly to the set standard operating procedures (SOP) and never take them for granted, as we are still facing the Covid-19 pandemic,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

For Saemah Hamidon, she argued that it was ‘ better to be safe than sorry’.

“What’s obvious now is that the world has yet to have a special medicine or a vaccine against

Covid-19.

“So, it would be better to continue with the RMCO, so that everyone would continue with the for the sake of the community’s health and wellness,” said the housewife.

“Even now, there are some people who are still taking the SOP for granted – they’re not wearing face masks, not practising proper physical distancing, and not washing their hands frequently.

“These irresponsible people should have been more aware that they’re not only risking their health, but also those around them,” she pointed out.

Saemah said with regard to her school- going children, she would not allow them to go to school if they had flu, fever or coughs.

“I would also prefer to have my children take part in online tuition, rather than allow them go to the tuition centre.”

Meanwhile, Aminah Seman said regardless of the government’s decision, she would continue to move on and live ‘according to the new norms’.

“Life is uncertain now. To me, the new norms are really necessary as we are still facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The new norms include the SOP set by the authorities, so it’s very important for us to always comply with the directives so that we would stay safe and healthy,” said the Matu native, adding that she encouraged her family members to wear face shields, in that the regular face masks did not protect the eyes and the areas around them.
