Imported Covid-19 case detected in Miri

KUCHING: Sarawak recorded one new positive case of Covid19 yesterday bringing the cumulative total to 688 cases.

In a statement, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) stated that the imported case involves a 55-year-old man working as an offshore scaffolder.

He returned from Amsterdam, the Netherland­s Aug 14, transited at Doha, Qatar before arriving at Kuala Lumpur Aug 15.

He spent a night in Kuala Lumpur before boarding a plane back to Miri Aug 16. Upon arrival at Miri Airport, he was taken to a hotel for 14-day compulsory quarantine. The case showed no symptoms.

He informed that before returning to Malaysia, he underwent quarantine and took rT-PCR swab test in Amsterdam which returned negative.

Upon arrival in Kuala Lumpur, he was screened and the result of his RTK Antigen test was also negative.

During his quarantine in Miri, a swab was taken for the first rT-PCR test on

Aug 18 and laboratory results on Aug 21 found him positive for Covid-19.

The case was admitted to the Miri Hospital’s isolation ward the same day. Contact tracing and further investigat­ion is ongoing.

SDMC added that the state recorded one recovery and discharge yesterday bringing the cumulative total to 662 cases or 96.22 per cent of total cases.

“Seven cases are being treated at hospitals’ isolation wards.

“As for today (yesterday), three new Persons-UnderInves­tigation (PUIs) are reported bringing the cumulative total to 9,347 with six still waiting for laboratory results,” it said.
