KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Marine Police Force Region 4 has established a control centre which will enable marine forces to monitor all movements in the Sabah’s waters.

Marine Operations Force commander, SAC Mohd Yusoff Mamat, said the control centre, an initiative taken by the Sabah Marine Police Force Region 4 under the command of commander ACP Ahmad Ariffin, would monitor all movement in Sabah’s waters round the clock from Labuan right up to Tawau.

“The control centre will monitor movement of boats and vessels that have been equipped with Automatic Identification System (AIS).

“This will enable us to launch any enforcement or rescue operations when needed without delay,” he said after launching the MOF Control Centre at the Marine Police Force Region 4 headquarters in Kepayan here, recently.

Also present was Sabah Marine Police Force Region 4 commander, ACP Ahmad Ariffin.

Elaborating further, Mohd Yusoff said all information could be channel to the MOF Whatsapp at 013 283 1197.

Mohd Yusoff said the use of Whatsapp had become popular by the public, including fishermen, and the Marine police were taking the advantage to let the public channel information and feedback swiftly. This, he said, would allow Marine police to stay connected with the fishermen’s associations in the east coast areas comprising Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau.
