20 Lions clubs jointly aid 170 fire victims of Rumah Chat

KAPIT: Twenty Lions clubs from the Rajang basin jointly donated aid worth RM11,348 to 170 fire victims of the 20door longhouse, Rumah Chat at Nanga Bilat, Entabai in Julau recently.

Lions district governor of Sarawak, Sabah, Labuan and Brunei, Rolland Chieng handed over the humanitari­an assistance of food and other necessitie­s to Tuai Rumah Chat who is also chairman of the Village Security and Developmen­t Committee of the longhouse (JKKK).

Rolland in his brief remark expressed the sympathies from the Lions for the loss of their homes and encouraged the longhouse folk to stay strong and united during this difficult time while waiting for a new longhouse to be built.

He also thanked the Lions clubs for supporting the project as well as individual­s for donation in kind. The assistance included 20 packs of 10kg rice, 100 kg of fruits and vegetables, 144 bottles of shampoo, t-shirts and towels for children. Sibu Life Care Society donated the clothing.

President of Lions Club Sibu Pahlawan, Dixon Chiu was the organising chairperso­n for the project which involved Lions Sibu Host, Sibu Mandarin, Sibu Seduan, Sibu Central, Sibu Pahlawan, Sibu Berjaya, Sibu City, Sibu Jaya, Sungai Merah, Bawang Asan, Sibu Nangka,

Sibu Queensway, Sibu Lanang, Bintangor, Dudong, Sibu Rajang, Sarikei, Song, Kapit and Mukah.

Also present were past district governor Dato Betty Wong, second vice district governor Kapitan Connie Loh.
