PENAMPANG: The

High Court’s decision of dismissing the judicial review application filed by 33 Sabah assemblymen against Yang DiPertua Negeri Sabah Tun Juhar Mahiruddin’s consent to dissolve the State Assembly received overwhelming response from the officials and members of the Upko Penampang Division.

“We welcome the decision of the court,” said the division’s acting deputy chief Carl Moosom.

He said with this fresh development, Upko in the area and elsewhere had been further inspired to efficiently and effectively mobilise their political machinery to ensure victory for all the chosen qualified candidates under the banner of Warisan, the present ruling coalition of Sabah government.

On Friday, Kota Kinabalu High Court dismissed an application by Tan Sri Musa Aman and 32 other assemblymen for a judicial review to quash Tun Juhar’s decision to dissolve the Sabah State

Legislative Assembly through a proclamation on July 30.

The group filed the leave for judicial review on Aug 3, seeking an injunction to the dissolution of the assembly. They also questioned the written request from Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal – the present caretaker chief minister – to Tun Juhar for the dissolution of the Assembly.

Carl said the Upko Penampang division was still awaiting the official announcement of the candidates. However, he expressed optimism that Upko would be given priority to contest and defend seats in KDM- dominated constituencies.

“We are also happy to note that the majority of the new 13 additional state constituencies are identified as KDM-dominated areas,” the Upko Youth secretary-general added.

Carl said Upko and its political allies had been working closely in all its election strategies and programmes to ensure victory come Sept 26.

He said voters and the local populace still supported Upko’s political struggles and ideology.

“Upko together with Parti Warisan Sabah, PKR, DAP and Amanah Sabah are all geared up to defeat the opposition candidates to ensure progress, development, and prosperity for Sabah and the Sabahans. We want to level-up the economic status of our state and at the same time, pave way for the upgrading of the standard of living of every Sabahan – not to mention, Malaysia in general.

“Let us ‘win as one’ in Sept 26 Sabah snap election,” he said.
