Limbang’s Gunung Buda holds great tourism potential

-

LIMBANG: Gunung Buda could become the next key tourism destination of this division, observes Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

He regards the mountain as one worthy to be accorded with a ‘World Heritage’ status.

Adding on, he also believes that with the right strategy and development, the tourism sector here would open up more opportunities for the local communities to boost their incomes and also the local economy.

“Infrastructures would be developed on Gunung Buda to open up opportunities in local tourism covering many areas such as accommodation, handicrafts, as well as food.

“For now, many do not know the potential held by Gunung Buda – in this respect, we plan to model its development after the World Heritage Sitestatus Gunung Mulu, and also Niah National Park,” he told reporters after officiating at the launch of Sarawak Youths Roadshow 2020@Batu Danau in Tanjong Riman Hall here yesterday, where Batu Danau assemblyman Paulus Palu Gumbang, Limbang Resident

Ahmad Denney Ahmad Fauzi and Penghulu Ekit Awang were also present.

Abdul Karim, who is also the Minister of Youths and Sports, said sports infrastructures would also be developed in Limbang.

“The ministry plans to build nine or 10 sports complexes or mini complexes, including in Limbang.

“These facilities would not only be in the urban centres, but they would also cover the rural areas. From here, we hope to unearth more young talents slated for the biennial Sarawak Games,” he said.
