KUCHING: Twenty-three individuals, including seven foreigners, were nabbed by police on Sunday for failing to adhere to the Recovery Movement Control Order (RMCO)’s standard operating procedures (SOP).

Kuching police chief ACP Awang Din Awang Gani said the offenders, comprising 13 men and 10 women aged between 18 and 26 years, were found to have violated the SOP during inspections on Kuching Waterfront and an entertainment outlet at Jalan

Song.

“The 16 locals who committed the offence were instructed to go to the district police headquarters where they were issued compounds under Regulation 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (No 7) Regulations 2020.

“The seven foreigners will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for prosecution in court,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Awang Din said those issued with the RM1,000 compound must settle them within 14 days from the date of issuance at the divisional Health Office here.

Awang Din also said despite the daily issuance of compounds to those who failed to comply with the SOP in addition to warnings published on the media, there was still complacency among some people in terms of adhering to the guidelines issued by the government to curb the spread of Covid-19.

“With the latest cases reported in the state, the public should cooperate to break the Covid-19 transmission chain.

“This matter should not be taken lightly,” he stressed.
