PDP Youth branch chief chips in to help repair plankwalk, jetty at longhouse

-

SIBU: The Bawang Assan branch chief of Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) Youth, Councillor Joshua Ting has stepped in to provide materials to repair the wooden plankwalk and jetty at Rumah Dawi Ringgil.

Ting said he became concerned about the safety of the longhouse folk after they had informed him about the dilapidated condition of the two structures.

“The wooden plankwalk, which links the longhouse to the jetty, is the only way for the villagers to go out fishing every day.

“After years of use, the jetty and plankwalk are now in dilapidated condition and although they (residents) have repeatedly applied to the authorities concerned for the upgrade and maintenance assistance over the past five years, there has been no outcome at all,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Ting said fearing for the safety of the residents, he and his team provided the necessary materials slated for the repair works on the plankwalk and jetty.

The residents were grateful having been ignored for many years as now, it would be more convenient for them to go in and out to fish, he noted.

Ting, who has been proposed as a candidate for Bawang Assan in the coming state election, said he was happy to have been able to help and he hoped to have a clearer understanding of the people’s needs through more visits and inspections.
