Villagers glad request for flood-prone road to be improved heard

SIBU: Villagers of Kampung Banyok in Pulau Kerto here heaved a huge sigh of relief a er Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman Wong Ching Yong promised to bring up their request to improve a stretch of about 170 metres of low-lying road.

According to Wong, he was informed by the Ketua Kampung Hanapi Gesah that without upgrading, that stretch of road was prone to flooding.

”A er inspection, I promised that I would discuss with SRDC the said request and hopefully the road will be improved soon,” he said.

Earlier, Wong disclosed that upon the request of Hanapi, he visited Kampung Banyok in Pulau Kerto on Sunday.

“He (Hanapi) informed me that there was one stretch of low-lying road which was about 170 metres long that needed to be raised and tarsealed.

“The kampung residents have been making the request for many years already,” he noted.
