Rotary club leads with pledge of RM10,000

-

KUCHING: Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City is taking the lead to aid Persatuan OKU Kuching by pledging a sum of RM10,000 to kick start a social enterprise project and assist with operating cost of House of Joy (centre).

Established in 2016, the association aims to improve the welfare of disabled individuals in the community through a holistic approach which includes teaching handicraft, baking, and gardening skills.

The Covid-19 pandemic had greatly affected its annual fund raising charity sales and it is in dire need of financial support from the public.

A social enterprise project led by Project Organising chair Rotarian Lau Yeo Koo supported by Rotarian Anna Bong will provide vocational training on baking to members at the centre as well as connect them to different sales and marketing channels.

Upholding service as its core value, Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City will hold an online baking class for disabled members of the centre through a Facebook Live Community Training session on Sept 19 at 2pm.

The finished products from these baking sessions will be sold to the public.

Members of the public are welcomed to pledge donation directly to Persatuan OKU Kuching (House of Joy) or place orders through the Rotary Club Kuching Unity City’s Facebook page with all proceeds going to the centre.

Rotary Club of Kuching Unity City had also donated a refurbished computer to support the centre’s administration office.
