Lax in SOP compliance at Kuching night markets — S4S man

-

KUCHING: Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) founder Alex Leong Shaow Tung has lamented that there exists a lax in security at some night market eateries throughout the city when it comes to the standard operating procedures (SOP) for Covid-19.

Leong, who is also Sarawak People's Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) potential candidate for Batu Lintang, claimed to have received numerous complaints that the entrances at the night markets were left unattended and not equipped with temperature monitoring device.

“If an infected person with Covid-19 visits the market or other night spots, and the SOP compliance is lax, this will expose the vendors as well as the visitors (to the virus),” Leong pointed out in a press statement.

Among those who made complaints, he added, were diners who frequented the stalls of night markets such as the Third Mile night market, which he visited immediately after hearing the complaints.

When visiting the place, he said he found that there was a table at the entrance with a logbook, but no staff was seen on duty and no temperature detector was seen there.

“This lax procedure without staff or a temperature monitoring device had been going on for several consecutive nights at the place,” he said.

Leong also reminded the local authorities such as the council not to be negligent in their duties in light of the recent spike in Covid-19 cases and that Kuching has been categorised as Red Zone.

Following the complaints, Leong expressed his appreciation to the coffee shop and many retail business operators who diligently comply with the SOP.

“Every one of us has social responsibility to fight this Covid-19 menace together, and local authorities must also cooperate with members of the public to win this fight against the pandemic,” said Leong.
