Fall from shopping centre leaves student critically injured

MIRI: A Form 5 student is in critical condition after she fell from the upper floor of a shopping complex here yesterday.

In a statement, Miri Civil Defence (APM) officer-in-charge Capt (PA) Usman Harto said they received a distress call on the incident at 10.10am.

“Upon receiving the call, a team of four personnel rushed to the scene,” he said.

Usman said the girl was semiconsci­ous when found lying on the concrete road leading towards the parking lots inside the building.

“The victim sustained injuries to her heels. The team immediatel­y carried out early treatment on the victim before taking her to Miri Hospital in APM’s ambulance” he said.

When contacted, Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah confirmed the case.

“According to the victim’s mother, the girl was depressed and had not been talking to anyone for the past two, three days prior to incident (yesterday),” said Lim.

As at 5pm, the victim was still being treated for severe injuries at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
