Coaches corner to be ready soon

KUCHING: State coaches will soon have their own ‘corner’ at the Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre in Petra Jaya where they can meet and exchange ideas.

Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) High Performance Unit manager Andre Richards said the SSC/MSNS Coaches Corner - catered especially for the coaches from Elite, Excellence and Development centres - is expected to be fully operational by January next year.

He added the ecosystem concept of bringing greater responsibility to the coaches was created by SSC chief executive officer Dr Ong Kong Swee, sports development division manager Ahmad Rodzli Hashim and himself.

This concept, which is also practiced in high performance (sports) countries, encourages inclusive environment where coaches continuously upskill themselves by sharing experiences and learn from each other.

“The plan to turn the room at the fourth floor of the building into a meeting place for the coaches was approved last week and this room will be managed by a committee of coaches,” said Richards, adding that it would be equipped with audio visual equipment, WiFi connection and other office facilities.

The Coaches Corner will also function as a meeting room where they can hold discussions with the SSC and Sarawak State Sports Council (MSNS).

He said it would be good for coaches of all levels to mingle and know each other.
