Hartalega pursues legal action against glove fraudsters

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Hartalega Holdings Bhd (Hartalega) has advised buyers to remain vigilant of fraudulent operators who relentlessly peddle gloves to potential buyers with false claims.

Chief executive officer Kuan Mun Leong asserted in a statement yesterday that Hartalega is concerned about the escalating behaviour of these glove scammers and standing firm against them.

“Their claims revolve around having ready stock and allocation of Hartalega’s own brand nitrile and latex gloves, GloveOn.

“Their fraudulent schemes include claiming to be stock allocators for Hartalega, requesting for payment to be deposited in escrow or third-party accounts and utilising social media to solicit business, among others,” he said.

Kuan said that this situation arose as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic as there has been a significant increase in the demand for gloves.

However, he said Hartalega has taken action against these glove scammers and lodged several police reports over the past few months.

“We have initiated litigation against one of the perpetrators, with court proceedings ongoing. We are in discussion with our legal counsel to initiate further legal action or recourse against other scammers,” he said.
