-

MIRI: Kelab Belia Lakin Bungan (KBLB) here recently donated RM2,000 to the new church building fund of Rh Langat Nanga Majang in Tinjar, Baram.

The donation was handed over by the club’s deputy chairman William Ajeng to the deputy chairman of the fundraising committee for the longhouse church, Penghulu Nawan Luhat at his residence.

“The donation was raised from our members as part of our community service. The construction of the new church building started early this year and is expected to be completed end of this year,” said club advisor Cornelius Ding Ngau when met after the simple handover.

Rh Langat Nanga Majang, an Iban longhouse was destroyed by fire about three years ago. Since then villagers have no house of worship.

Villagers from Long Atip, a Kayan village located about three

hours from the longhouse have been helping with the building of the new church which would include accommodation for the pastor.

The club which was registered with the Registrar of Youth ( ROY) last year aims to enhance

self- development, loyalty to country by engaging in sports, cultural and spiritual activities to keep away from social ills and destructive elements.

“Currently, KBLB has around 600 registered and associate

members from the Kayan communities in Baram, Bintulu, Sg. Asap/ Belaga and Kuching and aims to recruit more Kayan youths and carry out more social welfare and community services through voluntary works,” added Cornelius.
