S’wakian Alena Murang up for 2 awards in Bueno Aires Music Video Festival
KUCHING: Sarawak’s very own Alena Murang is in the running for two awards in this year’s Buenos Aires Music Video Festival which will be held virtually from Nov 27 to 29.
The renowned artiste’s ‘Midang Midang’ video was nominated in two categories – ‘Best International Video’ alongside Madonna, as well as ‘Best Styling’.
Congratulating Alena, state Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said he was thrilled with the nominations because ‘it means a lot to all of us in Sarawak when stories about the unique local communities are being shared on international music platforms’.
“Alena was right when she said that even during the Covid-19 pandemic, the music video clip which shows the Kelabit Highlands is still making its way through the prestigious festival and on the global stage.
“With over 29,000 views on YouTube, we hope Alena’s music video will continue to become the window for the rest of the world to see how much Sarawak’s tourism has got to offer and to become one of the ‘ must visit’ destination once the Covid-19 situation has improved,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Abdul Karim said even though the Buenos Aires Music Video Festival 2020 is based in Argentina and will be held virtually, millions of netizens are expected to be following the proceedings on various social media platforms.
“I believe this will augur well for the promotion of Sarawak as a tourist destination for the future and beyond,” he added.
Alena’s ‘Midang Midang’ video showcases her artistry and musical talent while depicting colourful and unique fashion styles.
Filmed in Bario and Miri, it was produced by Project Room and Kanid, and launched on Nov 27 last year with the support of Sarawak Tourism Board and Miri City Council.
