Sarawak records one new case, two recoveries

KUCHING: One new locally transmi ed Covid-19 case was detected in Sarawak yesterday, bringing the cumulative number of infections in the state to 1,042.

Sarawak Disaster Management Commi ee (SDMC) in a statement said the case was detected in Kuching District involving a patient who went for screening a er experienci­ng signs and symptoms of respirator­y tract infection.

“This case sought for treatment at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) on Nov 16 a er suffering from fever, cough, sore throat and headache since Nov 12.

“The patient was later admi ed to the isolation ward at SGH as Severe Acute Respirator­y Infection.

“On Nov 16, the patient was screened for Covid-19 and was found to be positive on the same day,” it said.

The commi ee revealed that an investigat­ion found that the patient had close contact with a previously detected case – Case 1,040 – who is a colleague, adding the patient had no history of travelling abroad or visiting Covid-19 high-risk areas outside the state.

“This case is classified as a local infection. It is now under further investigat­ion and contact tracing is in full swing.”

Meanwhile, SDMC said two new recoveries were recorded yesterday – both at SGH – which raised the cumulative number of recovered Covid-19 patients in the state to 933 or 89.54 per cent of the overall number of cases.

It also said that as of yesterday, 90 cases remained in hospitals throughout the state – 80 at SGH and 10 at Miri Hospital.

“There are no patients receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit at SGH but one case is receiving respirator­y assistance at SGH’s isolation ward,” it added.

Sarawak has recorded a total of 19 deaths since the first Covid19 case was reported in the state on March 13 this year.
