-

IPOH: A man dived into a mining pool and hid himself for about four hours Monday night among duckweeds in an attempt to escape from pursuing policemen who had wanted to check what he had in his car.

The 41-year-old man left his nine-year-old son in his Proton Saga car to dive into the pool in Kampung Dato Ahmad Said at about 8pm after speeding there from Medan Ipoh Bestari where the police had stopped him.

Civil Defence Force personnel in boats searched for the man and found him in the pool at about 12.30am yesterday, said Ipoh District Police chief ACP A Asmadi Abdul Aziz in a statement.

“Police found in the car several car and motorcycle components, including sports rims, suspected to have been stolen. The man has a record of past crimes,” he said.

Asmadi also said that the man had a head injury and scratches on both legs and was taken to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for treatment.

His son was also brought in to assist police in the investigation, he said.
