Sumitomo Foundation seeks grant applicatio­ns

KUCHING: Sumitomo Foundation is seeking grant applicatio­ns for projects under ‘Protection, Preservati­on and Restoratio­n of Cultural Properties outside Japan’.

The Foundation offers the grant programme so that cultural properties outside Japan, which are common heritage of humankind, may be handed down to future generation­s.

The number of projects to be selected is 15.

The duration of the grant is for one year - from March 2021 to March 2022.

Eligible projects are those for the protection, preservati­on and restoratio­n of cultural properties, such as fine arts or historical monuments, outside Japan. The cultural properties must be tangible, old and artistical­ly or academical­ly valuable, and ought to be handed down to future generation­s.

Applicants shall be the owners or administra­tors of the cultural properties or researcher­s who will actually conduct preliminar­y surveys. Those not eligible in principle are profit-making corporatio­ns; individual­s who own cultural properties for profit; or whose cultural properties are for private use only.

The applicatio­n and letter of recommenda­tion shall be written in English or Japanese. The amount applied for shall be in Japanese Yen or in US Dollars.

Applicatio­ns must reach the Foundation on or before Nov 30.

Applicatio­ns for this grant will be reviewed for selection by a Selection Committee of Sumitomo Foundation. The Board of Directors of Sumitomo Foundation, scheduled to meet in March 2021, will give the final approval in the selection of the projects eligible for this grant.

Results of the selection will be known to the applicants by airmail.
