Man fined RM1,500 for retaining stolen property

SIBU: A man, 28, was fined RM1,500 in default two months’ jail yesterday after he pleaded guilty to assisting in the concealmen­t of stolen property.

The accused, Ting Wan Soon, who was unrepresen­ted did not pay the fine.

He was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail term that may extend to seven years, or a fine, or both on conviction.

According to the charge sheet, Ting voluntaril­y assisted in the disposal of property, to wit, a ladder belonging to Ngu Heu Shu, 34, at

Lanang Lane 9 between Oct 23 and Nov 7.

Ngu said he realised his ladder which he placed at the back of his lorry at Lanang Lane 1, missing at 2.30pm on Oct 23. He then lodged a police report.

A police party arrested the accused from a house in Teku Barat about midnight Nov 12, who was then brought to the police station for further action.

Ting led a police team to a premises in Lanang Lane 9 about 2.30pm on Nov 14 to retrieve the ladder from the caretaker of the premises. Ngu identified the ladder as belonging to him.
