JKKKs urged to play active roles in community policy programme

-

MIRI: The village security and development commi ees (JKKK) are urged to play their roles proactively through the state government’s community policy programme.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said the programme would enable agencies under the state disaster management commi ee to explain their roles and functions to the people at the grassroots level.

“Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah, who is also chairman of State Disaster

Management Commi ee, has stressed cooperation of various parties in maintaining security at the community level

“It is a government commitment to the local community in sharing responsibilities,” he said when closing at Miri District JKKK-level SDMC’s Community Policing workshop here yesterday.

Lee, who is also Senadin assemblyman, described the workshop as the best platform to educate community leaders on the roles of JKKKs, particular in the aspect of security.

“When we talk about security, most of people will associate the ma er with crimes which comes under the police jurisdiction.

“The definition of security is not only confined to crime cases. Just like the Covid-19 pandemic now which poses serious threat to public health that needs the cooperation of all to eradicate it.”

He thus urged community leaders through JKKKs to work with the government so that the objectives of community policing programme could be achieved.

Agencies involved under the programme include Resident and District offices, National Security Council, Civil Defence Force, National Unity and Integration Department, State Security and Enforcement Unit of Chief Minister’s Department, Health Department, National Anti-Drug Agency, police and Sarawak Veterinary Department.

Acting Miri Resident Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusuf was also present at the function.
