Kopitiam offers sponsored free lunches to needy

KUCHING: Lai Lim Tay Kopitiam in collaborat­ion with several businesses and kind Samaritans will be giving away free lunches to those in need from 10am to 2pm daily.

Its proprietor, who wished to be known as Chang, said the decision to offer free meals was mainly to help and support the needy, particular­ly those whose lives have been disrupted by the health and economic crisis caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“There will be 50 lunch boxes available at our premises everyday for those in need and we plan to continue handing out these free meals until further notice.

“All are welcome to come and take the free lunch box, however, please be advised that the lunch boxes we’ve prepared are not halal,” he said in a statement.

He said the free meals are being sponsored by several businessme­n and kind-hearted individual­s who wish to remain anonymous.

Lai Lim Tay Kopitiam is located at Lot 5694, Sub Lot 11, Jalan Datuk Mohd Musa, Taman Melor Commercial Centre at 8th Mile, Jalan Muara Tuang here.
