MCCI clearing all marriage applications before licence expires on Nov 27

-

MIRI: Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI)’s licence to conduct marriage registration will expire on November 27; thus, the chamber is in the midst of clearing all applications and will conduct marriage registrations before the licence expires.

According to MCCCI secretariat, the queues of applicants have been quite long since the movement control order (MCO) was implemented on March 18.

“Those who were supposed to register their marriage (ROM) during the three-month MCO had to hold back, whilst new ones came in from June onwards.

“We are quite overwhelmed by the number while at the same time handling the cases orderly, with adherence to Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP).

Since last week, the MCCCI has been conducting marriage registration for approved couples, limiting to five couples per day.

“We strictly allow only two witnesses for each couple, as we have limited space to ensure physical distancing.

“Though most of them understand and comply accordingly, there are those who stubbornly refused, with us ending up with more people than usual. In these cases, we can only allow them to wait outside the premises, for the safety of our staffs,” it said.

On the licence renewing process, the secretariat hopes it could be renewed as soon as possible, in view of the huge demand.

“All documentations have been submitted to Putrajaya. We understand that the current conditional MCO is holding back a lot of activities, some way or another; thus, we are doing all we can, to avoid disappointment to our clients,” it said, adding that all marriage registrations at MCCCI will have to be temporarily put on hold after Nov 27.

MCCCI is open Mondays to Fridays, 8am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 5pm. On Saturdays, it opens from 8am to 12.30pm.
