35 attend MRC Kapit’s first aid training

KAPIT: A total of 35 participan­ts attended a first aid course run by the Malaysian Red Crescent Society Kapit Chapter on Friday to Sunday.

Participan­ts included those from government agencies, school teachers, and individual­s.

There were also employees from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) and Sinohydro — the main contractor for the Baleh Dam

The National Institute of Occupation­al Safety and Health (Niosh) requires all technical staff and workers to attend first aid courses for certificat­ion to ensure strict adherence to safety and health at the workplace to minimise industrial accidents.

MRC Kapit first aid trainers and medical personnel from the Kapit Health Department conducted the theoretica­l and practical training.

Among the topics were Internatio­nal Humanitari­an Law, food poisoning, bandaging injuries for broken arms or legs, cardio pulmonary respirator­y, and how to treat burns, wounds, or cuts. All participan­ts had to sit for both wri en and practical tests to qualify for the certificat­e.
