KFA becomes Kuching City FC next season

-

KUCHING: Kuching Football Association will be known as the Kuching City Football Club (Kuching City FC) next season, said its chairman Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman.

In a press conference on Tuesday, he also announced that Irfan Bakti will be the head coach next season.

“We are confident that he (Irfan) can further improve the standard of Kuching City FC. We have already discussed with him our philosophy and culture including our strengths, weaknesses, constraints and our goal for the next season,” said Fazzrudin who is Tupong assemblyman.

The club had initially planned to retain Japanese coach Akira Higashiyama as head coach but the latter turned down the offer.

On the club’s development programme, Fazzrudin said Kuching City FC was always striving towards uplifting the standard of its coaches.

“We will also ensure that the coaches will qualify to get Licence A and B so that they can be involved in the club’s philosophy and culture together with the senior team.

“In this aspect, we are in the process of trying to bring in Wan Jamak Wan Hassan as the club’s technical director.

“With his wide experience and expertise, we are confident that we can not only develop football for Kuching City FC but also for Sarawak as a whole,” he said, adding that Wan Jamak was one of the most certified instructors for Licence C, B and A coaching courses.

Meanwhile, Kuching City FC will be looking to join the Malaysia Under-19 League.

Fazzrudin observed that there were many centres of development under Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC) but the players did not have the chance to play at a higher level.

“Our cooperation with SSC will see players being selected into Kuching City FC/SSC teams while the coaches will be provided by both parties,” he added.
