Civil servant fined RM2,500 for drug abuse
KUCHING: A civil servant was fined RM2,500, in default four-month imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday, after he pleaded guilty to illegal consumption of amphetamine and methamphetamine.
Magistrate Syarifah Fatimah Azura Wan Ali also ordered Khairul Najmie Morshidi,
35, who was charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, to undergo two-year police supervision.
The accused was not represented by a lawyer.
Khairul Najmie, whose address indicated that he was from Kampung Siol Kandis here, was charged at 12.35pm on Oct 1 this year, at the Kuching Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division.
The prosecuting officer for the case was Insp Mohd Adzmei Ahmad.
In a separate case at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, an Indonesian was fined RM10,000, in default fourmonth imprisonment, for illegally running online gambling activities here.
Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi passed the sentence after Heryanto Ng pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 4B (a) of Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, which was read by a court interpreter.
The Indonesian, who was not represented by a lawyer, was accused of illegally operating online gambling inside a café at Synergy Square, Jalan Matang here, and was apprehended at 2.50pm on Dec 15 this year.
Further examination found that the smartphone used by Ng had an app that ran online gambling activities.
The prosecution was conducted by ASP Rogayah Rosli.
