Covid-19: 1,925 new cases, two deaths yesterday

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of new daily Covid-19 cases in Malaysia remained in four figures at 1,925 cases yesterday while total active cases was at 21,443.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the new additional cases brought the overall total in the country to 108,615 cases.

He said from the total new cases, 10 were imported, while local Covid-19 transmissi­ons accounted for 1,915 cases.

“Selangor reported the highest daily cases with 747 and 625 of the cases were from Covid-19 clusters and screening of close contact in active cases in the field. This was followed by the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur with 360 cases,” he said.

“Pahang recorded 288 cases with its increase influenced by prison-related cluster such as the Tembok Mempaga Cluster which reported 282 cases,” he said in a statement on the developmen­t of Covid-19 yesterday.

In this regard, Dr Noor Hisham said the two new deaths recorded yesterday involved locals.

The first death involved a 65-year-old man from Putrajaya who had diabetes, hypertensi­on, chronic kidney disease as well as heart problem and stroke.

The second fatality was a 68year-old woman from Kelantan who had high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney problem.

Apart from that, Dr Noor Hisham said the number of recovery cases was 1,123 cases taking the cumulative recoveries to 86,715 cases.

He said to date, 117 cases were treated at intensive care unit with 55 of them requiring respirator­y assistance.
