4 new imported cases raise state’s cumulative number to 1,114

KUCHING: Sarawak yesterday recorded four new imported Covid-19 cases, bringing cumulative number of infections in the state to 1,114.

Sarawak Disaster Management Commi ee (SDMC) in a statement said two cases were detected in Kuching District and one case each in Betong and Sibu districts, adding that all were asymptomat­ic.

“The first case involves a local female who returned from Senai Internatio­nal Airport, Johor to Sibu Airport on Dec 26. Upon arrival, the case underwent Covid-19 swab test and was found positive on Dec 28.

“The case and nine other family members were ordered to undergo 14-day home quarantine in Betong and were fi ed with the quarantine wristbands. She has been referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment,” the commi ee said.

The second case involved a local male who arrived at Sibu Airport from Kuala Lumpur Internatio­nal Airport (KLIA) on Dec 27, and was tested positive on Dec 29.

“The case was also ordered to undergo home quarantine and equipped with the wristband. He has been referred to Sibu Hospital for further treatment,” said SDMC, adding that further investigat­ion and contact tracing for this case is underway.

The third case involved a local male who flew from Liberia, Africa on Dec 22 to KLIA before arriving at Kuching Internatio­nal Airport (KIA) on Dec 26.

The commi ee said the man underwent rT-PCR test four times in Liberia with the last test conducted on Dec 20, and he tested negative each time.

“The case underwent RTK Antigen test when he arrived at KLIA on Dec 24 and was also found to be negative for Covid-19. Prior to continuing his journey to Kuching, the case spent two nights at the KLIA departure hall.

“When he arrived at KIA on Dec 26, the case underwent rTPCR test and was found positive on Dec 28. The case was ordered to undergo compulsory 10-day quarantine at a quarantine centre and the remaining four days at home,” the commi ee said, adding he has been referred to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) for further treatment.

The fourth new case involved a local male who returned to Kuching from Johor and was found positive on Dec 28.

He was ordered to undergo the compulsory 10-day quarantine at a quarantine centre with the remaining four days at home, and was referred to SGH for further treatment, said SDMC.

Meanwhile, the committee reported two new Covid-19 recoveries yesterday – one each at SGH and Miri Hospital – which brought the cumulative number of recoveries in Sarawak to 1,064 – or 95.51 per cent of total number of cases.

A total of 29 cases were being treated in hospitals – 14 in SGH and five each in Miri Hospital, Sibu Hospital and Bintulu Hospital.

Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Lawas districts remain as Yellow Zones, while the remaining 36 districts in Sarawak are Green Zones.
