Contractor to run rectification works on justupgraded concrete drain along Kong Phin Road

KUCHING: The contractor undertaking the concrete drain upgrading project along Kong Phin Road here has agreed to carry out certain rectification works, following complaints voiced out by local residents.

In stating this, Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Public Complaints Bureau chief Wilfred Yap said he was recently approached by concerned residents at Kong Phin Road who told him about their dissatisfaction over the works on a section of the concrete drain.

“A resident, surnamed Kon, who spoke on behalf of the complainats, had requested for a proper inspection to be conducted by officers from Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) to ensure that the concrete used for the construction of the drains was in accordance with the specifications listed under the contract.

“The residents were also not happy with the workmanship of the contractor,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Yap, who is also SUPP Kota Sentosa chairman, said after listening to the residents, he immediately brought the matter up to the attention of MPP.

Later, a council officer in charge of supervising the works requested the contractor to jointly inspect and assess the situation.

“During the joint inspection, the MPP officer had instructed the contractor to conduct ‘coring test’ on the concrete used in the works.

“The contractor had also agreed to carry out rectification works,” said Yap, adding that he would continue to help out by monitoring the situation to ensure that the works would be carried out and completed in full compliance with the specifications listed under the contract.
