Youth on rape charge sent to Henry Gurney School

KUCHING: An unemployed 19-year-old was ordered by the Sessions Court here yesterday to be sent to Henry Gurney School at Puncak Borneo after he pleaded guilty of raping his 15year-old girlfriend.

Judge Jason Juga ruled that the young offender should be sent to the school until he is 21 years old, after examining his social report,

The accused was charged under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 20 years and whipping, on conviction.

According to the charge sheet, he raped his girlfriend at an unnumbered house in Kampung Stenggang, Bau, between October 2019 and March 2020.

In mitigation, the accused who was not represente­d by a lawyer, appealed for a lighter sentence, saying he regretted his action.

In the same court, another 19year-old also pleaded guilty to raping his girlfriend last year, an offence under Section 376 (1) of the Penal Code.

The court set Feb 4 to hear his social report, and released him on bail of RM5,000 with two local sureties.

The teenager was charged with raping his 15-year-old girlfriend between August and September 2020 at an unnumbered house in Kampung Skibang, Bau.

According to the charge sheet, the girl had gone to a clinic in Kota Samarahan on Oct 15, 2020 for a medical examinatio­n.

She was told by a medical officer that she was 11 weeks’ pregnant.

After telling her boyfriend about the pregnancy, the teenager said he would take responsibi­lity for the child.

Prosecutin­g in both cases was DPP Nurfadzlin Mahmad Zulhasnan.
