Active case detection launched in two Sri Aman longhouses

-

KUCHING: The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) has launched the Covid-19 active case detection operation in two longhouses in Sri Aman after infections were detected at Rumah Sungai Putong in Ulu Undop.

The committee said besides Sungai Putong, the operation will also affect Rumah Bui Panjai in Lubok Antu.

SDMC chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said the two longhouses had been locked down and enforcement agencies have been deployed to ensure that no one enters or leaves the affected areas.

He added that the Welfare Department had sent rations to the longhouses and the Sri Aman Divisional Health Department was conducting screening and active case detection.

Uggah announced at a press conference after a SDMC meeting earlier yesterday that a woman and a man had been infected in Sri Aman and that they were screened for the virus as they had been exhibiting signs and symptoms of Covid-19.

They were treated at the Sri Aman clinic on Jan 6 and their tests came back positive

yesterday. They have since been referred to the Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

“The cases are categorised as local infections until the source of their infection is known. Contact tracing for the two

cases is being carried out by the Sri Aman Health office,” he said.

With the new cases, the deputy chief minister said Sri Aman is now among eight Covid19 yellow zones in Sarawak. The others are Kuching, Miri,

Sibu, Bintulu, Meradong, Bukit Mabong and Lawas.

The Health Department categorises areas with no cases as green zones; one case and above as yellow zones; and more than 40 as red zones.
