Schools in S’wak’s Covid red zones to stay closed until March 14 — SDMC

-

KUCHING: The school session in Sarawak’s Covid-19 red zone districts will be postponed for another two weeks from March 1, the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) decided yesterday.

The committee said in a statement that schools in Kuching, Samarahan, Julau, Meradong, Sibu, Kapit, Bintulu, Subis and Miri will remain closed until March 14, due to the current Covid-19 pandemic in the state.

It pointed out that the decision was also made on the advice of the Sarawak Health Department and following a discussion with the Education Ministry.

“This decision was made after taking into account the capacity of the health system in the affected areas,” it said.

SDMC said it had also formed a committee under the state Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Research together with the Sarawak Education Department to ensure that school sessions throughout the state would run smoothly and safely.

The Health Ministry has districts with no Covid-19 cases as green zones, while those with one to 20 cases in a two week period as yellow zones, 21 to 40 cases as orange zones and those with 41 and more as red zones.
