Immunisation programme kicks off vaccination of Health Ministry staff
SIBU: A total of 288 Ministry of Health (KKM) staff members in Sibu Division were given the vaccination yesterday in the first phase of the Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
Sarawak Health director Dr Chin Zin Hing said from the total, 96 were from Lanang Health Clinic, 60 from Sibu Jaya Health Clinic, 36 from Sibu Hospital, 54 from Selangau Health Clinic, and 42 from Kanowit Hospital.
Dr Chin added that vaccination for KKM staff in Sarikei and Mukah divisions, as well as Kapit and Song Districts also kicked off yesterday.
On Thursday, Dr Chin had said that while the first phase of the vaccination programme would be rolled out for the frontliners, the second phase would cover senior citizens aged 60 and above and Malaysians with comorbidity – those suffering from chronic diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.
Under the second phase, he had said individuals would be given the jab at government healthcare facilities and the designated community halls, as well as at selected private healthcare facilities and homes for the aged.
“Phase III will involve all Malaysians in Sarawak who are eligible, aged 18 and above.
“Under this phase, the vaccination will be carried out as an outreach manner whereby community halls will be identified as vaccination centres apart from government healthcare facilities and selected private healthcare facilities,” he was quoted as having said then.
Meanwhile, some 13,000 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid19 vaccine were delivered here on Thursday to be administered to about 6,000 frontliners in the central region, said Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee coordinator, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Housing Dr Annuar Rapa’ee.
He had said of the 6,000 frontliners, 3,576 are in Sibu Division, while the rest are stationed in Sarikei, Mukah and Kapit divisions.
