Couple jailed three months for theft

SIBU: A husband and wife were sentenced to three months’ jail by a magistrates’ court yesterday after they pleaded guilty to theft.

Denree Kruchek Alexander, 25, and Joysephine Sipok, 36 were charged under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum 10 years’ jail and a fine, and also under Section 34 of the same code.

Another accused, Zaipul Engkabang, charged together with the couple, but pleaded not guilty was remanded and ordered to appear in court again on March 24.

According to the charge sheet, the couple stole a pair of RM39,90-women jeans from a supermarket at Teng Chin Chua Road here about 11.40am on Jan 26.

It said one of the supermarket workers, Jack Clay, saw Joysephine putting a pair of jeans inside her black bag. She and the others then left the building without making any payment.

Jack apprehended them after a short chase outside the supermarket and took the jeans,

A police report was then lodged, which resulted in the arrest of the trio by the police.
