Ministry urged to check on fuel price hike in rural areas

-

MIRI: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs has been urged to go to the ground to check on the price hike of fuel in the rural areas.

Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) Baru treasurer, Sai Malaka, in a statement yesterday said rural people were the most affected by the hike.

“The hike seems to be out of control in the rural areas, causing the people to suffer much.

“Limited movement of people does not mean the demand for fuel is low. The minister incharge Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi should frequently go to the ground to check on the real situation faced by the rural people,” said Sai.

He also said the price of construction material should be monitored since there had been many complaints of price hike involving steel and even timber.

“In a tough time like we are in now, all the people want is a government that cares about their wellbeing,” he said.

Hence, he hoped the ministry would go to the ground (rural areas) and not just check prices of controlled items in urban areas.
