Voluntary organisations lauded for ensuring sufficient blood supply

-

MIRI: Minister of Transport Datuk Lee Kim Shin commended local voluntary organisations for continuing to hold blood donation campaigns to ensure stable blood supplies in Miri Hospital Blood Bank.

Lee who officiated at a blood donation campaign held in conjunction with the opening of National Association of Malaysian Life Insurance and Family Takaful Advisors (Namlifa) Miri branch at Miri KPJ Hospital yesterday (Feb 27) said Miri division has recorded a large pool of voluntary blood donors.

“Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Miri Blood Bank had collected more than 8, 000 pints from mobile campaigns annually.

“Though movement control during the pandemic has reduced the amount collected, donors have continued with their good deed at MRC Miri District Training Institute, the alternative venue for blood donation.

“This is a community value that we, Mirians have cultivated through voluntary organisations. The credit goes to the Miri community for voluntary effort to help those in need by donating blood,” said Lee.

Meanwhile, the campaign organising chairwoman Josephine Awing Raymond said the campaign held in response to request from Miri Hospital Blood Bank and MRC Miri District also aimed to create a sense of community by doing something for others.

Also present were Namlifa Miri chairwoman Alice Voon and Miri KPJ Hospital general manager Denis Saving.
