Over 11,000 Miri frontliners up for vaccination next month

-

More than 11,000 frontline workers in the division would receive their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine early next month.

Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin told reporters that the vaccine supply should arrive here by March 6.

“Tentatively, we have been told that the vaccines would be here on that said date. However, due to the procedure required, such as the cold temperature storage and transportation conditions, further confirmation would be revealed by the Ministry of Health,” he said after conducting inspection on Jalan Kampung Lopeng Tengah 1 yesterday.

Lee and Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Sebastian Ting would be among the first here to be vaccinated.

The vaccination programme would be conducted at Eastwood Valley Golf and Country Club, Dewan Datuk Permaisuri, and Dewan Masyarakat Bekenu.

“As for the frontline workers, it (vaccination) also includes medical staff from health clinics in rural areas in Miri Division such as Bario and Beluru. We are making sure that these medical staff members would get their doses first,” said Lee, who is also Miri Division Disaster Management Committee (MDDMC) minister-in-charge.

He said the Resident’s and district offices had been working closely with local grassroots leaders to help register the residents for the vaccination programme.

“We are encouraging those who have the MySejahtera app to register through the app, whilst those who do not have the app, to register manually. Grassroots leaders such as kapitan, penghulu, and tuai rumah have been told to be ready to reach out to the residents in their respective areas, to ease the registration procedures,” said Lee.
