SIBU: Regular supply from donors is necessary to ensure sufficient blood stock in Sibu Hospital Blood Bank, says Sibu Hospital deputy director cum Blood Bank superintendent Dr Rachel Teng.

“While the supply at our blood bank is sufficient, we need to ensure the supply is always enough for daily needs.

“We call on the public especially regular donors to volunteer at mobile blood donation campaigns or the Blood Bank and adhere to standard operating procedures when donating,” she urged.

She advised those who feel unwell with cough and flu to refrain from donating while receiving a donation of 1,200 bottles of hand sanitizers for the Blood Bank from Malaysia Red Crescent (MRC) at its headquarters here yesterday.

MRC Sibu had provided 1,200 bottles of hand sanitizers to the blood bank Feb 2 and 2,000 bottles to Sibu Hospital Jan 28.

MRC Sarawak vice chairman Penghulu Chua Hiong Kee handed over the donation to Dr Teng witnessed by senator Robert Lau.

Also present were MRC Sibu District deputy chairman Hii Sieh Toh, vice chairman Normah Abdulrahman and honorary treasurer Counselor Huong Haw Ching.

A blood donation drive in collaboration with Lions Clubs in Sibu, MRC Sibu District and the Blood Bank was held at MRC headquarters yesterday from 9am to noon.
