Committee officially announces end of Bedayan Cluster in Serian District

KUCHING: The Bedayan Cluster in Serian District has officially ended, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah has declared.

“The state Health Department has declared the end of the Bedayan Cluster, as there have been no new cases recorded in the past 28 days,” he said in the daily Covid-19 update yesterday.

The Bedayan Cluster, involving villages in Serian and Samarahan districts, was identified on Jan 27, and it is said to have derived from a number of social gatherings.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) reported that as at Feb 1, the cluster recorded a total 17 cases following the screening of 548 individual­s.

On a related matter, Uggah – also the SDMC chairman – said there were 26 Covid-19 clusters still active in Sarawak.

Five new cases were recorded in Gelong Cluster in Kapit yesterday, bringing the total number of cases under this cluster to 184. This came after 231 individual­s had been screened, of whom 47 tested negative and there was no pending test result.

The Sungai Bakong Cluster in Meradong recorded four new cases, bringing the total number of cases under this cluster to 146. This followed the screening of 747 individual­s, with 502 having tested negative and 10 still awaiting test results.

Three new cases were recorded in Jalan Green Cluster in Kuching – bringing the total number of cases under this cluster to 24 cases. This came after 250 individual­s had undergone screening, with 266 having tested negative and there was no pending test result.

The Jalan Muhibbah Cluster in Betong reported two new cases yesterday, bringing the total number of cases under this cluster to 69. A total 1,216 individual­s under this cluster had been screened, of whom 817 tested negative and 330 still awaiting test results.

Two new cases were also registered under the Pasai Cluster in Sibu, bringing its total number of cases to 2,666. This was after 41,500 individual­s had undergone screening, of whom 38,591 tested negative and 243 still awaiting test results.

Only one new case was recorded under Emperoh Jambu Cluster in Kuching, which brought the total to 166 cases. A total 660 individual­s had been screened under this cluster, of whom 362 tested negative and 132 still awaiting test results.

Only one new case was recorded in the other 21 clusters, as well as the Tangab Sub-Cluster in Subis yesterday.

Uggah also announced that Selangau had become a Covid-19 Red Zone after having recorded 41 local transmissi­ons in the past 14 days.

Mukah, which was previously a Green Zone district, had changed into a Yellow Zone after having recorded two local infection cases within two-week period.

On the other hand, Tatau District had gone back to becoming a Green Zone after it had not recorded any new local infection case in the past fortnight.

Under Ministry of Health’s classifica­tion of areas recording positive Covid-19 cases within a timeframe of 14 days, any district with more than 40 cases is classified as a Red Zone; 21 to 40 cases as an Orange Zone; one to 20 cases as a Yellow Zone; and those with no case as a Green Zone.

Meanwhile, Uggah reported that nine districts – Kanowit, Betong, Meradong, Kuching, Samarahan, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri and Sibu – had remained as Red zones, with accumulate­d number of 2,562 local infection cases reported within a two-week period.

The districts of Julau, Subis, Bau, Bukit Mabong, Dalat and Sri Aman remained Orange ones, with a total of 179 local infection cases recorded in the past 14 days.

Pusa, Song, Asajaya, Beluru, Sarikei, Lundu, Saratok, Sebauh, Serian and Belaga maintained their Yellow Zone status, having recorded a combined 90 local cases in a two-week period.

“Thirteen other districts in Sarawak still have their Green Zone status,” added Uggah.
