KAPIT: Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit has advised the people here to register for the Covid-19 immunisation programme as soon as possible to protect themselves against infection by the virus.

Phase 1 of the immunisation programme here kicked off on Feb 26 and ended yesterday, with the frontliners and health staff the first to be vaccinated.

Speaking through phone, Jamit advised everyone in Kapit to hurry up in registering their names with the relevant government agencies so that they can be given the vaccination.

He said they can register through MySejahtera, the Kapit District Office, hospital or the nearest clinic as soon as possible because Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the programme would be conducted simultaneously towards end of this month or early April till May this year.

He reminded that only those who have registered will be vaccinated.

Commenting on how he felt after receiving the vaccine, he said: “Not feeling any pain when the nurse injected the dose on my arm. Very fast and simple, I didn’t even feel it. Everything felt good, there was nothing unusual. I feel good.”

He thanked Kapit Health Department and Kapit Health Clinic for organising the immunisation programme.

“The vaccine is the answer to protecting ourselves and our loved ones against Covid19 infection. Having been vaccinated myself, I can tell you vaccination is safe and painless,” he said in encouraging the people not to miss the opportunity to be vaccinated.

Apart from Jamit, those who received the jab on Saturday are Kapit Resident Nyurak Keti, Deputy Resident Galong Luang, Kapit district officer Cerisologo Sabut, Bukit Mabong district officer Douglas Pungga, Kapit health officer Dr Hamidi Mohd Sharkawi, Kapit OCPD DSP Freddy Bain, welfare officer Dariel Thiong and social development Officer Belayong Pok.

Both Nyurak and Dr Hamidi advised the public to register for the vaccination programme.

“Vaccination is good to boost the body’s immune system against the Covid-19 virus. I have just received my first dose, everything went on smoothly. There is no side effect as feared by some people,” said Nyurak.
