Begin your foundation, diploma classes at Swinburne with zero fees

KUCHING: Students who undertake foundation and diploma programmes at Swinburne University of Technology have the opportunit­y to enter directly into any degree programme of their choice upon successful completion of their pre-university studies.

Applicatio­n for the foundation and diploma programmes is now open with classes commencing this April 12. Domestic students can start their studies online immediatel­y without any payment for the first two weeks under the ‘Start With Zero Fees’ programme.

Prospectiv­e students, particular­ly Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) holders who have yet to decide on their next step, can find out more about the university and its programme offerings by contacting Swinburne’s Education Counsellor via WhatsApp number 019-819 6353, or via study@swinburne.edu.my.

SPM candidates can also apply with their forecast or school examinatio­n results to secure a place to study at Swinburne.

Swinburne’s School of Foundation Studies provides foundation programmes in business, design, engineerin­g/ science, and informatio­n technology/multimedia, as well as Diploma of Business Management.

The school also offers language support through its intensive English and supplement­ary English courses that are designed to develop students’ fluency and confidence in the areas of reading, writing, listening, speaking and studying in English.

The foundation programmes are a one-year pre-university preparator­y course that leads to undergradu­ate studies in various discipline­s. Students will be equipped with essential academic and communicat­ion skills as well as critical and analytical thinking skills necessary to succeed in higher level of study.

Its core units encourage creativity and innovation, while its stream-specific units develop further understand­ing of the majors available.

Whether students are interested to be employed in the private or public sector, the university states that its two-and-a-half-year diploma programme would equip students with analytical and creative skills needed for their future employment in any industry.

The comprehens­ive nature of the programme allows students to develop a broad understand­ing of the business world and gain essential, transferab­le skills such as leadership, marketing, management, organisati­on, and research skills.

Swinburne Foundation Studies (Business) and Diploma of Business Management can lead to undergradu­ate study majoring in accounting, finance, accounting and finance, human resource management, internatio­nal business management, management and digital media or marketing.

Moreover, the university said students keen on pursuing the Degree in Multimedia Design or Major in Graphic Design could choose to build their foundation with the Foundation Studies (Design) programme.

On the other hand, students undertakin­g the Foundation Studies (Engineerin­g/Science) would be equipped with knowledge and skills for further studies in biotechnol­ogy or environmen­tal science and various engineerin­g discipline­s such as civil, chemical, mechanical, electrical and electronic, and robotics and mechatroni­cs engineerin­g.

For Foundation Studies (Informatio­n Technology/ Multimedia) students, the programme prepares them for undergradu­ate study majoring in cybersecur­ity, Internet of Things (IoT), software developmen­t, data science, artificial intelligen­ce (AI), network technology or software technology.

Prospectiv­e students who meet the academic requiremen­ts are automatica­lly eligible to apply for scholarshi­p or bursary offered by the state government or government-linked agencies.

Students also have the option to pay their tuition fees over 10 interest-free instalment­s annually.

Sarawakian Bumiputera students can take advantage of the BP40 Bursary Scheme, a special education scheme designed by Yayasan Sarawak to ease the financial burden of Bumiputera students of Sarawak origin from low and middle income (B40 and M40, respective­ly) family background­s.

With the scheme, the total fee for a one-year foundation programmes would be RM5,446, while a two-andhalf year Diploma of Business Management programme would only cost RM17,693, said the university.

Recently, Swinburne entered into a partnershi­p with Regent Internatio­nal Schools for the latter to offer Swinburne Foundation Studies in business and engineerin­g/science – commencing this April.

Swinburne said with five campuses located in the states of Selangor, Kedah and Pahang, Regent would provide affordable internatio­nal education in Malaysia in view of its position as one of the largest internatio­nal school groups in the country in terms of number of schools and personalis­ed pastoral care.
