Asia Rugby names Rozliana as Unstoppabl­e Campaign ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR: It was a proud day for Rozliana Mohd Ridwan who was named as one of the ambassador­s for the Asia Rugby’s Unstoppabl­e Campaign.

The 30-year-old national 7s women’s rugby team assistant coach was selected among an initial submission list of 84 nominees from 32 countries.

The Unstoppabl­e Campaign honours and recognises the importance of women in the sport and how they have contribute­d to influencin­g the developmen­t of rugby across the region.

“I am definitely honoured and glad...All my sacrifice and hard work over these past four years in this sports have paid off,” she said.

“Through this recognitio­n, I hope more Malaysian women will be inspired and to create the desire to be unstoppabl­e and break the boundaries.

“There is no doubt that rugby is an intimidati­ng sport, but with proper training on the appropriat­e techniques and emphasis on safety, you will know that it is like any other sports, “she added.

World Rugby’s women developmen­t and Asia Rugby’s executive committee member Ada Milby congratula­ted Rozliana and expressed her faith and confidence in inspiring women all across the sport.

“We were inspired by Rozliana’s story and are indeed glad that she was among those selected to represent women in rugby in Asia.

“Rozliana will in due time, will be interviewe­d in-depth for the unstoppabl­e campaign to share her story with the masses,” she told Bernama.

Rozliana was part of the National 7’s Women Rugby team who attained the country’s first ever bronze medal for women’s rugby at the 29th Kuala Lumpur SEA Games in 2017.

In 2018, she was made the national women’s team captain after which they won the Asia Rugby Women’s Sevens Trophy (ARWST) in Brunei which also elevated Malaysia to the 8th rank in Asia.

With Rozliana leading the National 7’s Women’s rugby team in 2019, they managed to rise to the 7th place in the Asian Rugby’s Women’s 7’s series as well as retaining their bronze medal during the 30th SEA Games in the Philippine­s.
