KUCHING: Subis District has turned into a Red Zone after it has recorded a total of 42 new locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases in the past 14 days.

Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who is also Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman, said with this latest development, the number of Red Zone districts in the state had reached 15.

“The 15 Red Zone districts are Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Sibu, Sarikei, Julau, Meradong, Matu, Mukah, Kapit, Bintulu, Miri, Subis and Beluru.

“The districts of Saratok, Sebauh, Kanowit and Marudi are under Orange Zone status,” said Uggah in his daily Covid-19 update yesterday.

Sixteen districts in Sarawak classified as Yellow zones are Asajaya, Tebedu, Bau, Betong, Lubok Antu, Song, Dalat, Daro, Bukit Mabong, Belaga, Tatau, Tanjong Manis, Pakan, Selangau, Lawas and Limbang.

Only five districts maintain their Green Zone status – Lundu, Simunjan, Kabong, Pusa and Telang Usan.

Under Ministry of Health’s classification of areas recording positive Covid-19 cases within a timeframe of 14 days, any district with more than 40 cases is classified as a Red Zone; 21 to 40 cases as an Orange Zone; one to 20 cases as a Yellow Zone; and those with no case as a Green Zone.

Separately, Uggah also said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) had issued four compounds in Miri over violation against the standard operating procedures (SOP) set as means to curb Covid-19 spread.
