Hotels’ ‘buka puasa’ events to follow strict SOP
KUCHING: Two local hotels will be able to serve guests their ‘buka puasa’ (breaking of fast) delights throughout this coming Ramadan month, while adhering strictly to the set standard operating procedures (SOP).
The Grand Margherita Hotel and the Riverside Majestic Hotel Astana Wing are back to offering breaking-of-fast packages after not being able to do so last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“First of all, we would like to express our gratitude to Sarawak government, specifically the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), for allowing hotels, restaurants and halls to hold ‘buka puasa’ events in 2021,” said the spokesman of the marketing and communications department for both hotels yesterday.
“For those not keen on dining in, they could opt for delivery or pick-up services,” he said.
“On top of that, all promotions apply for reservations made via Insiders Club, as a way to encourage pre-bookings, and discourage walk-ins in accordance with the SOP set by the SDMC.
“Throughout our operation, we would apply and ensure strict compliance with the breaking-of-fast SOP outlined by the Ministry of Local Government and Housing of Sarawak.
“We care and are very focused about the well-being of our guests and staff. Our core purpose, as always, covers health and safety.”
SDMC, in a statement issued last Saturday, said breaking of fast in hotels, restaurants and halls would be permitted during the Ramadan month this year – subject to certain conditions.
Among the conditions are that operators of hotels, restaurants and halls must inform the local authorities and their respective divisional disaster management committees before proceeding with the ‘buka puasa’ events; there must be no group bookings; all guests must arrange reservations as walk-ins are not allowed; and, customers are not allowed to wait in line – they are to select items from the menu and the food would be served at each table.
The first day of the fasting month is expected to be April 13 (Tuesday).
