Unimas to host ‘Duduk Dan Tonton’ SeaShorts Film Festival Thursday
KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Faculty of Applied and Creative Arts of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) will be hosting ‘Duduk Dan Tonton’ (sit and watch) short film screening in collaboration with SeaShorts Film Festival this Thursday (April 15).
The online event will commence at 8pm. Register at https://tinyurl.com/DuTon1 to watch at five short films from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines programmed by Jacky Yeap, a cinematography graduate from Unimas.
Yeap a filmmaker runs SeaShorts Film Festival dedicated to Southeast Asian short films and filmmakers currently in its fifth year.
These five films are programmed under the theme ‘SEAriously, Women on Screen’’ as part of the Mini Film Festival’s endeavour to present contemporary female voices to wider audience without charge.
From Singapore is short documentary ‘Elsa’ by Lim Jen Nee. The coming of age story of the director’s son has been screened at several film festivals including JogjaNETPAC Asian Film Festival (Indonesia) and IndieCork Festival (Ireland).
‘Hush, Tonight The Dead Are Dreaming Loudly’ by Kong Pahurak from Thailand sheds light on the lives of people a year after the political massacre in Thailand.
It has been screened at the world’s most prestigious short film festival, Clermont-Ferrand (France).
A Malaysian short ‘The Cloud Is Still There’ from the personal experience of director Mickey Lai follows a young Christian woman’s journey of faith which clashed with her family’s religious belief .
Another highlight of this free online screening is ‘Ladies Choice’ by Celina Peñaflorida from the Philippines.
This film explores motherhood through a conversation between a mother and daughter who just had a breakup.
‘A Closed Mouth Catches No Flies’ by Destian Rendra Pratama from Indonesia revolves around a shop where locals hang out to gossip about daily life.
An online question and answer and discussion session with the filmmakers will be held after the screening.
