Man convicted for drug abuse, 3 others for riding drunk

SIBU: A 31-year-old man was sentenced to five years imprisonme­nt and one stroke of whipping by a Magistrate­s’ Court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty to drug abuse.

William Tiong Ing Hing was charged under Section 15(1)(a) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952 (Act 234) punishable under Section 39C(1)(b) of the same Act.

The Section provides for a minimum imprisonme­nt term of five years and maximum seven years with whipping of not more than three strokes upon conviction.

Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar also ordered the accused to be placed under police supervisio­n upon release and to report to the nearest police station once every first week for three months.

According to the charge, on Jan 25 at about 6.45pm in Sibu Central Police Station, his urine sample was found to have dangerous drugs Amphetamin­e and Methamphet­amine.

Meanwhile, at the same court, 28-year-old Muhammad Isshamill Sim was sentenced to one day jail and fined RM10,000 in default four months jail after he pleaded guilty to riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol.

The court also ordered his driving licence to be suspended for two years. He did not pay the fine. He was charged under

Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which carries an imprisonme­nt term not exceeding two years and a fine not less than RM10,000 and not more than RM30,000 and disqualifi­ed from holding or obtaining a driving licence for a period of not less than two years.

According to the charge, Muhammad Isshamil was riding a motorcycle with alcohol concentrat­ion of 140mg/100ml in his blood April 10 at about 8.30pm along

Jalan Wawasan here.

The permissibl­e limit of alcohol content in the body is 50mg/100ml.

Meanwhile, in separate cases, Aaron Sim Swee Fook, 22, and Hillary Achoi, 31, were charged separately under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Sim and Hillary both got one day jail and fined RM10,000 in default four months and five months jail respective­ly.

Both their driving licences were also suspended for two years.

According to the charge, on April 10 around 8.30pm at Sungai Bidut, Sim was found riding a motorcycle while having alcohol concentrat­ion of 110mg/100ml.

Hillary on the other hand was found riding a motorcycle while having alcohol concentrat­ion of 207mg/100ml April 9 around 8.53pm at Jalan Channel.

Both accused also did not pay the fine.
