Mother’s Day gift brings tears of joy

-

SIBU: Supardiyati, 44, broke down in tears when a group of volunteers appeared at her doorstep bearing Mother’s Day gifts yesterday.

“I am also a mother and being a mother is not easy. So, I think the best way to celebrate Mother’s Day is to be a blessing to other mothers.

“There are mothers who are suffering from cancer, taking care of special needs children or single mothers,” volunteer Loh Yu Yee, 45 told thesundaypost yesterday.

According to her, Supardiyati has been going through hardship since her husband Muhammad Johny Aizuddin, 52 had to stop working due to an accident a few years ago.

Though only basic food supply was given, it meant a lot to Supardiyati and her family who has no income but survived on the generosity of the local community. Johny’s previous employer allows the family with a 14-year-old son to continue staying at the workers’ quarters in Lanang Road.

Loh, who is active in charity work was introduced to Supardiyati’s family a year ago and has been helping with monthly supplies besides festive and special occasions. The family also receives supplies from the Welfare Department monthly.

Loh and a group of volunteers delivered food essentials to 24 families in Sibu and another 12 families in Matu Daro instead of Mother’s Day cakes this year

“All of these gifts are sponsored by various individuals and as I received more sponsorship, I decided to visit the families at Matu Daro as well,” she added.
